On Tuesday evening, we had the opportunity to visit one of Golden Valley’s newest eating establishments, Smashburger
As a general rule, I do not like to go to restaurants on opening day. I like to usually wait a week or so, to allow time for them to work out the bugs. This was not the case with Smashburger. We went about 7:00 pm and the place was packed. Even though there were a lot of people both inside and on the patio, the staff did a great job of taking orders and getting people through the line rather quickly.
My wife had a cheeseburger, my son had chicken strips and fries and I had a chicken sandwich. My wife and I also had orders of what they call SmashFries. These are french fries that are tossed with rosemary, olive oil, garlic and other herbs. They have a pretty extensive menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, hotdogs and brats. You can also get a burger with either chili, fried egg or garlic sauteed mushrooms. Definitely unusual toppings for a burger or chicken sandwich!
Smashburger is in a good location, right on the corner of Hwy 55 and Winnetka in Golden Valley. I think that they will do well here. It is unusual to see a new business open during tough economic times, but they should be able to survive the economic roller-coaster.
This addition gives Golden Valley another great eating establishment!
